69th Western Forest Insect Work Conference
We have a lot to announce regarding the 2019 Western Forest Insect Work Conference being held April 22-25 2019 in Anchorage, Alaska at the Anchorage Marriott Downtown. Registration for the 69th Western Forest Insect Work Conference is now open via Eventbrite! You can register for the conference at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/69th-western-forest-insect-work-conference-tickets-58400803375 and there are many registration options available. Late registration begins on Friday, April 12 at 7pm ADT. The Anchorage Marriott Downtown is well situated near all that downtown Anchorage has to offer and is offering an excellent room rate for conference attendees. The conference rate is available for stays between April 19 and April 28, 2019 and can be booked online here or by calling the hotel at 907-279-8000 (the keywords for booking by phone are “Western Forest”). The deadline for making room reservations under this room block is Monday, April 8, 2019, though we encourage conference attendees to book as early as possible. Any issues or questions regarding lodging should be directed to Jason Moan, Local Arrangements Chair, at Jason.firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Program Committee invites meeting participants to contribute to the program through poster presentations. Posters will be displayed near the conference meeting rooms allowing all meeting attendees the opportunity to view your work. For poster submission please send the title and list of authors with affiliations to Monica Gaylord (email@example.com; 928-556-2074) by the end of the day Monday, April 1, 2019. Please contact Monica with other questions regarding the poster session. Poster dimensions should be no larger than 3.5 ft wide x 3.5 ft tall (~ 1m x 1m). Abstracts for the poster session should be submitted by the end of the day April 19th, 2019. A sample abstract is attached. Please limit your abstract to 250 words.
All photographers from novice to expert are invited to submit their photos for all to enjoy and compete for the top honors within each category. The categories are: (1) Forest Insect, (2) Forest Insect Damage, (3) Series (three to seven pictures, where a single picture is not enough to tell the whole story), (4) Entomologists at Work, (5) Humorous (the lighter moments of Forest Entomology), and (6) Other (subjects that do not fit the other categories). Submissions are limited to digital media. Please submit photos in as large a format/file size as possible and uncompressed to Tom Eckberg (firstname.lastname@example.org). Deadline for submission is Monday, April 15, 2019 to allow for slideshow preparation and judging.
Don’t forget to start planning now for the 2019 Western Forest Insect Work Conference Silent Auction. All proceeds from the auction benefit the WFIWC Scholarship Fund. Support the next generation of entomologists and bring your donations to the meeting or mail items to Jason Moan (Alaska Division of Forestry, 550 W. 7th Ave, Suite 1450, Anchorage, Alaska 99501).
