67th Western Forest Insect Work Conference - May 1-5, 2017 in Jackson WY

The 67th meeting of the Western Forest Insect Work Conference will be held Monday, May 1st through Friday, May 5th at the Snow King Hotel in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

 

The theme of this year's meeting will be "Adapting in a Time of Transitions"

From the Program Committee Chair, Dr. Barbara Bentz (USFS): NEW!! The Program Committee is working on exciting agenda for the upcoming 67th annual conference in Jackson Hole.  In an effort to provide additional opportunities for members to participate in the conference, we are offering an OPEN SESSION for 15 minute oral presentations.  Please submit a title and author list, and any questions, to Dr. Lorraine Maclauchlan (Lorraine.Maclauchlan@gov.bc.ca) no later than April 7th.

 

The program committee of the 2017 Western Forest Insect Work Conference invite meeting participants to contribute to the program through poster presentations. Posters will be displayed near the conference meeting rooms allowing all meeting attendees the opportunity to view your work. For poster submission please send the title and list of authors with affiliations to Carl Jorgensen (cljorgensen@fs.fed.us or 208-373-4225) by April 3, 2017.  Please contact Carl with other questions regarding the poster session. Poster dimensions should be no larger than 3.5 ft wide x 3.5 ft tall (~ 1m x 1m). The conference will provide hanging devices for posters.

 

The program committee also invites graduate students to contribute to the scientific program through oral presentations. Graduate students, please send the title and list of authors with affiliations to Monica Gaylord (monicalgaylord@fs.fed.us or 928-556-2074) by the end of the day on February 28th.  Please contact Monica with other questions regarding the graduate student session.

The venue this year will be the Snow King Hotel in Jackson Hole.  A brochure outlining the available amenities for conferences and meetings can be found here on their site, or downloaded as a pdf file here, and includes a map of the hotel.

 

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Snow King Hotel for the conference. To reserve a room, please call the Snow King Hotel toll free at 1.800.522.5464, and provide the group code "WFIWC Conference" to book rooms on the block. The rate for our conference will be $141 USD (~187 CAD).  It is important that you use this code to receive the discount and to ensure we fulfil our contracted obligation.  The hotel will require a credit card to secure the room, and there is a 30-day cancellation period, after which cancellation will be assessed a fee. 

 

We have received final approval for USFS travel to WFIWC 2017, so please proceed to make travel arrangements to Jackson WY (JAC).  

The conference will begin on Monday (May 1) evening with a social event.  Presentations and events will begin Tuesday (2nd) morning at 8am and run until Thursday (4th) afternoon.  If possible, we encourage everyone to book travel to arrive Monday and leave Friday, as we will surely be socializing and enjoying the beautiful venue during the entire period.
