This position serves primarily as a Forest Health and Aerial Survey Specialist for the New Mexico Zone of Forest Health Protection. Major position duties include:
- Largely responsible for planning, coordinating and conducting the annual aerial Forest Insect and Disease detection surveys within New Mexico and elsewhere as needed.
- Provides technical assistance concerning forest insect and disease location, and extent and severity to land managers for integration into resource management activities.
- Prepares and writes reports to present survey data including GIS maps, summary tables and graphic displays, which includes mapping of insect and disease caused damage, various management projects and reporting Regional insect and disease conditions.
- Participates in forest insect and disease field surveys as needed to evaluate insect and disease impacts. Summarizes data obtained from field surveys and applies appropriate statistical tests to determine significance and variability of data. Reports results to various users in various written and graphic formats.
