As the Forest Entomologist, you will serve as the local expert and representative providing professional and scientific advice and opinions related to forest insect detection, monitoring, population dynamics, treatment and mitigation.  Your responsibilities will include assessing current and potential forest insect problems and opportunities, with a specific focus on bark beetle and defoliator management, development and implementation of applied research, insect control projects, and extension services.

In addition, you will participate in the development of operational and/or strategic plans, legislation, standards, management practices and strategies that address key entomological issues, with the goal of minimizing or mitigating potentially serious economic and stewardship impacts posed by certain insect infestations, such as mountain pine beetle.
You will require excellent problem solving, communication and leadership skills, along with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, resolve issues, and build consensus with clients including ministry staff, other agencies, First Nations, industry and public groups.
